Tanger Med, the port complex in Morocco, has taken on the role of bridging the gap between the two countries through its presentation at the international agricultural trade show in 2024. The chosen theme, « Une offre de valeur logistique pour les flux Maroc-Espagne » (A logistical value proposition for Morocco-Spain flows), highlights the commitment of Tanger Med in enhancing logistics between the two nations.

The presentation at the event featured key stakeholders from Tanger Med, the Bay of Algeciras Port Authority, the Port of Barcelona, and the Port of Motril. These experts highlighted the infrastructure and capabilities of Tanger Med in handling agricultural logistics, particularly in the export of Moroccan products in various sectors such as textiles, leather, automotive, aerospace, electronics, horticulture, and fresh produce.

One of the key features of Tanger Med’s infrastructure is the 19-hectare « Export Access » dedicated to processing export flows, with a capacity of 2,100 units per day and an average transit time of 3 hours. Additionally, the port’s logistics zone includes a refrigerated unit with a storage capacity of 35,000m3/5,500 SKU for handling and processing agri-food products.

In 2023, Tanger Med successfully processed 3.4 million tonnes of agri-food products through TIR trucks for import/export and 15.6 million tonnes through REEFER containers for transshipment. The main export destinations for these products from Tanger Med include France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany.

The presentation at the agricultural trade show not only highlighted Tanger Med’s capabilities but also emphasized the solutions available to Moroccan importers and exporters. This strategic showcase at the event, which is one of Africa’s largest agricultural gatherings, served as a platform for Tanger Med to connect with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Overall, Tanger Med’s commitment to enhancing logistics between Morocco and Spain is evident through its infrastructure and services. As the port complex continues to play a crucial role in facilitating trade between the two countries, its efforts are set to strengthen the agricultural supply chain and create new opportunities for growth and partnership in the region.
